Lamb Sloppy Joe

Homemade Sloppy Joe Sauce
 2 tbsp canola oil
 3 tbsp diced jalapeño
 2 tbsp minced garlic
 3 cups ketchup
 1 cup orange juice
 1 tbsp liquid smoke-(optional)
 ½ cup molasses
 ½ cup brown sugar
 ¼ cup Coca-Cola
 1 tsp garlic salt

 1 lb ground lamb
 1 large white onion diced
 4 cloves fresh garlic
 1 cup sloppy joe sauce (homemade) see above
 3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
 1 tbsp garlic powder
 1 tbsp garlic salt
 2 tbsp olive oil
 6 whole grain burger buns

In a large saucepan add the oil over medium high heat. Add the jalapeño, garlic, and shallots. Sauté for a minute, then stir in the ketchup.

Sauté for 2 minutes, then add orange juice, liquid smoke, molasses, brown sugar, and Coca-Cola.

Finally, add garlic salt and whisk together until all ingredients are blended well. Allow sauce to come to a slow boil.

Place the oil in a large heavy bottomed skillet type over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté for two minutes then add the lamb breaking up clumps as you cook.

Season the lamb with with garlic salt, pepper, and salt and cook for another three minutes then add the Worcestershire, sloppy joe sauce and reduce heat to low and cook for fifteen minutes, mixing well.

Serve on the whole grain bun.
